Articulation and Phonology
The development of sounds occurs throughout childhood and common errors are prevalent during this time. Speech sound disorders encompass difficulties with perception of sounds, motor speech disorders (apraxia of speech and dysarthria), and the phonological representation of sounds which impact intelligibility of speech.
Receptive, Expressive, and Pragmatic Language
We use language to communicate daily with the world around us. Receptive language is how we comprehend what we hear and read. Expressive language is how we use our language, including vocabulary and syntax. Pragmatic language is our social use of language, not only what we say, but also how we use language along with our gesures and expressions.
